“Double Falsehood”: not a hoax!

The Complete Works of William ShakespeareDouble Falsehood is now published.The lost play by Shakespeare, perfomed in 1613, is not a forgery. According to Professor Brean Hamnmond (University of Nottingham and editor of the Arden Shakespeare Collection) in the play, co-written by Shakespeare and the dramatist John Fletcher, the Bard’s hand can be discerned in three of the acts. Researchers think it is based on Cardenio, which is itself based on de Cervantes’ Don Quixote. According to Professor Hammond there are evidence that links the 18th century play “Double Falsehood by Lewis Theobald to the lost Shakespearean play. Theobald has always mantained that his work was a re-working of Shakespeare’s original.
